All employees are involved in learning and sharing about Glacier National Park and Northwest Montana in order to ensure that our guests enjoy the most memorable experience possible. A general description of the specific duties associated with each available position follows:
Trail Ride Wranglers
Each location has several trail ride wranglers who are responsible for leading daily trail rides. They must have a well rounded background in western horsemanship, outstanding customer service skills, and the confidence to ensure the safety, along with your co-wranglers, of up to 17 novice riders on top of 17 horses. Wranglers will be in charge of maintaining the conditions of the trails (which includes trail clearing) as well as daily care of the animals. Do not apply for this position if you are not patient or do not have strong communication skills, as these traits are critical to ensuring that every trail ride goes smoothly and each of our guests is well looked after.
There is one corral manager per location. This individual is responsible for the upkeep and oversight of their specific facility. This includes daily opening and closing procedures, management of the office and all maintenance and cleaning duties associated with the facility, ensuring all horse care procedures (grooming, feeding, health, etc.) are followed, and overseeing the trail ride staff at their facility. Additionally, the corral manager is the primary liaison at their particular facility between the company and both the guests and the National Park Service or US Forest Service staff (i.e. Rangers and other personnel). Corral managers are required to have prior experience working as a trail ride wrangler or manager in a comparable high volume trail ride operation. Extensive horsemanship, management experience, strong communication and organizational skills, phone etiquette, point of sale (POS) management and attention to safety are a must.
In addition to trail rides, we also offer packing services to various chalets, lodges and backpackers in Glacier National Park. During pack trips, packers are responsible for leading a string of pack animals and/or guests to various drop locations as well as caring for the animals and/or guests. Additional responsibilities that apply to this position include assisting with maintenance at any of our three Park facilities, trail work, feeding and cleaning up after stock, doctoring stock, operating a variety of equipment such as truck and trailer, loaders, etc. This position is only available to those with extensive horse packing experience.
There are two cook/housekeeper positions in Glacier National Park, one on the west side and one on the east side of the Park. Each cook/housekeeper will be responsible for preparing 3 daily meals for all employees and tracking food inventory at their respective locations. Cook/housekeepers must be able to modify dishes to cater to individuals with any specific dietary needs (i.e. diabetic, vegetarian, medical-related food needs, etc.). Cook/housekeepers will also be responsible for helping to coordinate and prepare food for staff development activities. Additionally, the cook/housekeepers are responsible for the cleanliness of the bunkhouse(s). This includes daily cleaning of common areas such as the kitchen, living room and bathroom (i.e. sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning the windows, hand washing dishes, cleaning showers/toilets/sinks, and keeping the kitchen spotless). We also have traditional camp cook positions available out of our Swan Division (located in the Swan Valley and the Bob Marshall Wilderness) for our Swan Mountain Wilderness Guide School as well as our fall hunting camps.
Sales and Reservations Coordinator
We have both a full time seasonal (June through September) and full time year round Sales and Reservations Coordinator position, based out of our headquarters office in Hungry Horse, Montana. The Sales and Reservations Coordinators:
- Receive phone calls and answer basic queries made by guests pertaining to the services provided by Swan Mountain Outfitters, as well as information about Glacier National Park, the Flathead and Swan Valleys and the Bob Marshall Wilderness
- Perform primary contact and establish rapport with guests as they make advanced reservations for their Northwest Montana vacation
- Receive, obtain and store pertinent guest and payment information and ensure validity, completeness, accuracy and confidentiality of these records
- Relay conversations and pertinent messages to others while maintaining accuracy, clarity and confidentiality
- Assist Marketing Director, VP Finance & Administration and Company Owner with a variety of updates and special projects
The Sales and Reservations Coordinator is the first link to all of our guests, so it is imperative that she/he have excellent customer service and phone skills. Additionally, she/he must be self-motivated as the position requires them to work alone for most of the day.
