Montana Mountain Whitetail Hunting

Whitetail deer in Montana are typically found at the lower elevations around our base camp and throughout the Swan-Seeley Valley, you'll find them in the foothills and fields. Whitetail hunting in Montana is very different from other areas of the country. Because there is so much food and water in their natural habitat, you don't need to pattern whitetail deer in Montana in the same manner as you would in other parts of the country; there are no acorns. And we have outstanding whitetail deer hunting in Montana primarily because our whitetail deer, not being over hunted, live longer. For example, it is possible to down deer five years old or even older with much more developed racks. We consistently knock down 140 class and larger deer.

Swan Mountain Outfitters offers several distinct styles of hunting for whitetail deer, hunts from our base camp and hunts from Swan Mountain Ranch.

BASE CAMP WHITETAIL DEER HUNTS
Hunters interested in maximizing their opportunity for Whitetail deer ideally should opt to go with our multispecies "combination hunts" out of our base camp. This allows a hunter to emphasize going after a Whitetail using all the resources we have available, and having the additional bonus opportunity to take an elk or bear should they happen across them. Because hunters are focused on Whitetails specifically, our guides will take them to areas we know to have heavy concentrations of trophy deer. This could be outside our base camp, or in areas all over the Swan Valley that we are authorized to hunt.

WHITETAIL LUXURY HUNTS
We are now offering a whitetail hunt from Swan Mountain Ranch. Through a lease structured with tha State of Montana and a private timber company, we are able to offer a less rigorous hunt in an area chalk full of dandy Whitetails. We often refer to this offering as our "Old Man" or "Luxury" hunts as you have the comforts of the Lodge at Swan Mountain Ranch, less of a walk to areas, more stand and blind hunting rather then spot and stalk, etc. We believe this hunt will be a favorite for previous clients that have enjoyed their time with us over the years, or perhaps father and son/daughter pairs looking for the first deer for young hunters.
