Montana black bear are fair game in both the fall and spring! Color phase bears in shades of cinnamon, chocolate, and blonde are frequently harvested in our area. In fact, the Swan Valley is home to some of the best black bear hunting in Montana. Our bear hunts often utilize horses, which makes us a very unique option for guided bear hunts in Montana. Montana bear hunting is pure fair chase, no baiting or use of dogs, in fact we can’t even use scents.

In the fall, we can hunt black bear in combination with other species hunts. In the spring, we’ll focus on bears exclusively.

Spring hunting is a great option because it eliminates the distraction of hunting elk and deer. The Swan Valley is one of the few areas in Montana that remains open for black bear hunting until May 31st. In the spring these animals are very active. We don’t get up at the crack of dawn as the black bears rarely do. Using a combination of horses and hiking, we’ll hunt rockslides, search old logging roads and trails for scat and sit clear cuts. Hunters can elect to take some time to fish, taking advantage of our “Blast & Cast” offering either at the ranch or in any of the 60 plus streams, rivers and lakes within an hour’s drive.

If you are looking for the ultimate fair chase black bear hunt in the beauty of the Swan Valley, this hunt is for you!
